Show WOULD SPLIT COUNTY TO AVOID TRAVEL People of Linwood, Manila and Antelope Ante-lope Find Vernal Too Far Away in Winter. By the time the next session of the Utah state legislature rolls around there is expected to develop a substantial demand de-mand for the creation of a new county in the Uinta basin. There already has been considerable local agitation in the basin over this plan, which seems to be gaining ground, according to prominent residents of the district who have been in attendance ou the sessions of the legislature, the county coun-ty commissioners and other bodies in Salt Lake the past two months. Residents of the northern part of Uinta county, including Linwood, Manila Ma-nila and Antelope, are behind the movement move-ment for the creation of the new county, against which to date there hns becu developed no appreciable opposition. That part of Uinta county across the Uinta mountains is very isolated, and the travel to Vernal, the county seat, is difficult. Many times during the year a trip across the mountains is out of the question. ques-tion. The people of Ashley valley have expressed ex-pressed themselves as being highly in favor of the creation of a new county. The sheriff, his deputies, the county superintendent of schools, the assessor and all other county officials, in fact, to say nothing of the politicians, are said to have a dread of the time when thev are forced to make this journey across the mountains. |
