Show TEACHERS TOLD OF WORK'S IMPORTANCE Superintendent of City Schools Makes Address at Meeting of Institute; Professor Bennion Also Speaks. That school is life rather than preparation prep-aration for life was the thing that Dr. Ernest A. Smith, superintendent of the city schools, endeavored to impress upon the teachers of Salt Lake yesterday morning in his address at the institute in the East High school building. It was an inspiring appeal, and won the approval of his audience. Professor Milton Bennion talked ; upon the question as to whether or not the teacher 's work is to him a vocation, voca-tion, a trade or a profession. He impressed im-pressed upon his listeners that the dignity dig-nity of their work depended entirely upon their efforts. A talk on "Club Work" was given bv I. .1. Sanders. Slides made from views taken of the club gardens, chicken chick-en yards and other activities that have been accomplished by the Salt Lake school children under the supervision of Mr. Sandurs were used for stereoscopic illustration of the lecture. The music consisted of a violin solo by Owen Bartlett and a soprano solo by Miss Jane Sands, a selection from "Madam Butterfly." The afternoon was given over to departmental instruction. |
