Last night t hero was a union meeting meet-ing of the Presbyterian synod or' Utah nnd the Woman's Synodical mission of tliis state. Tho meeting was open to tho public, ninl was held at the Third Presbyterian church, Eleventh Kast and Seventeenth South streets, beginning at 8 o'clock. The meeting was addressed by the following: .Mrs. Walter Russell of Salt hake Citv, Mrs. I. B. Pimiev Of New Vnrlf l)r U'-HTen Wiln V New York, and Dr. If. W. Reherd of Westminster college, this city. 3 The synod of tho Presbyterian church was in session yesterday, using the Third Presbyterian church as a meeting place. The, Bo v. Dr. W. M. Pailen opened ' the session, aa moderator, and the lie v. " W, M. Porter of Kaysville was elected 1 moderator to succeed Dr. Paden. The ; Rev. Wildnian Alurphy of Payson was ' re-elected stated clerk for a period of three years, and the Be v. C. H. Hamilton Hamil-ton of Delta was re-elected permanent clerk for the same length of time. The ; following members were elected to serve as delegates to the church federation of Utah, which organizatioli includes nearly near-ly all of the other church bodies in the state: The Bev. A. P. Wittenberger of Logan. Dr. W. H. AlcKirahan of Mount Pleasant, Dr. W. M. Paden of Salt Lake, and the Bev. Wildman Murphy of Pay-son. Pay-son. " I The next meeting of the Presbyterian synod will be held in Salt Lake City earlv in September, 1917. The' following schedule, of business will be carried out today: Devotional exercises will beain the session at 9 o'clock. Then will follow the reports of the various committees of the synod, including in-cluding that which is supervising Westminster West-minster college. It is understood that this institution is in flourishing condition, condi-tion, and that it is facing the banner rear in its history. The new faculty is expected to arrive bv Saturday and the college opens to students for matriculation matric-ulation on Wednesday next. The final session oi the synod will be held at 8 o'clock this evening, at which time there will be a courerence of Christian workers, after which adjournment adjourn-ment will .be taken. |
