Two pugilistic titles of Utah will be at stake tonight in the Grand theater when Hardy Downing s:ages his weekly Manhattan Man-hattan club fights. The principal nffair is a six-round bat-tie bat-tie between Young Gilbert, local lightweight light-weight champion, and Johnny (Kid) Mex. a clever Denver scrapper. This should be one of the toughest battles of fiije bill and one filled with pienty of action. Gillie rt is one of the hardest slamming slam-ming battlers of local repute and Kid Mex has a. similar reputation in Denver. Ho -sent Gilbert to the canvas for the count of nine at their initial meeting a few weeks ago. Both are primed for the fuss this evening. Kid Davis, one of the popular young fighters developed in the short-round fame here, will defend his fea;herwe;g!)t c rown against Young Azevedo. one of the sensations of the season. Azevedo put in a cli'im to this crown until Davis hopped inro town for the holidays and demanded that his right to the title still be recognized. rec-ognized. Azevedo has defeated all opponents this winter and all he lias to do is to win from Kid Davis tonight and he will be CtfliVs featherweight champ. Davis, however, is a classy boy and the San Francisco scrapper will have to travel faster than he has against any of his opponents this winter to win tonight. Gus 'Williams a'ld Joe Manes will he the features in the shorter bouts. Both of these boys are unusnallv clever featherweights. feath-erweights. Manes hails from Pan Francisco, Fran-cisco, where he has considerable reputation repu-tation as a short-gons: mixer. Williams has just sprung Into prominence this year, but has all the earmarks of a coming ring artist. Kid Mac and Kid Dutch will be sent tngether in a slugfest. Both are tough.
