Show HIGH SCHOOLS GO BACK INTO STATELEAGUE Leopards and Panthers Are Again Members of Utah High School Athletic Association. After a two months' withdrawal, the East and West hi'h schools have decided to gr back Into the Utah High School Athletic association. The two local schools, together with the U D. S. U.. Granite and Jordan, withdrew in the middle of the basketball season after the season had been featured with protests and continual warring". It can hardly be said that the Salt Lak schools gained anything by drawing out at the February meeting, but it wiil be a question as to where the two schools arc going to draw the competition in the association basketball schedules, unless Davis county hig-h school is takn from the Northern division and tiansferred to the Salt Lake division. With Iv. D. S. U., Granite and Jordan out of the association, the old rivalry among ah the schools and close games will be lacking, and it is a cinch that the fans are not going to swarm to tee the same two schools play time after time. Position of L. D. S. U. If the L. D. S. U. can be persuaded to re-enter the association, the division will be saved, and with East and West, L. D. S. U. and Davis county the competition should be keen, but the Gold and Blue doeg not look with favor on the plan of going back. The L. D. S. U. is a good drawing card wherever it plays. Coach Miller receives numerous offers for games each year, and, owing to the league schedule, is forced to pass them up, but with no schedule to interfere the L. D. S. U. can take all the trips it wishes. Granite has taken its stand against playing the West high while existing conditions con-ditions remain so. This will necessitate the Leopards giving up the Farmers as opponents, although it should be said that the East and Granite have always been on the best of terms. Is Merry Tangle. Jordan sides with Granite, but will play both city high schools. It is certain, cer-tain, however, that should Jordan and Granite wish to get back into the league and still refuse to meet the West high, a division would be formed in the suburbs to include Murray, Bingham and possibly one other, but even then Granite and Jordan students would yearn in vain for the spirited and close competition of yore. All the schools in the old Salt Lake division have been invited to participate in a meet on May 5 to decide the representatives repre-sentatives In the state meet to be held Mav '12. The L.. D. S. U. has arranged a dual meet with the East high school for May 1. |
