Show DEMOCRATS CONTROL COMGLEfflTUfiE Only Republicans Are Four Hold-over Members of j Upper. House. ! i I A FEW ARE VETERANSj May Be One Possible Exception Ex-ception When Kane County Coun-ty Results Are In. If the Democrats are not able to do about as they please in the next legislature legis-lature it will be their own fault. They have surely elected all of the nine senatorial sena-torial candidates, and the indications are that they have elected every one of the ! lower house cf tho state legislature. If early returns are borne out by the final count it will be the first time iu the History of Utah that the lower house bas been entirely tbe property of any political party. The Republicans have had every member of the state senate a time or two and once cut the Democratic Demo-cratic minority tn only two members. Jn giving the Democrats all the members mem-bers of the lower house, .1. Alex. Be van of Tooele (who is really a Socialist), I and J. T. Raleigh, Mrs. Grace St.ratton- j Airey and Thoniaa P. Page of Salt Lake, I Progressives, are classed as Democrats a fair classification, since they were all on the Democratic ticket. Apparently the only possibility of the Republicans winning a single seat in the lower house is in Kane county, where D. D. Rust, Democrat, leads his Republican opponent by a narrow margin, with ono small district to hear from. Four Republicans. In tho upper house there are. in addition addi-tion to the nine Democratic, nominees I elected, nine hold-over senators. Five of these are Democrats and four Re-l Re-l publicans. The four Republicans and jone of these, Frank Evans of Salt Lake, I was elected on the Democratic-Progressive ticket two years ago are the only I Republicans among the sixty-four members mem-bers of tbe legislature: Among the newly elected members of the senate is Wesley K. "Walton, Progress! Pro-gress! voj supported bv the Democrats, who as a Republican was a member of the state senate in 10U5 and 3907, representing rep-resenting Rich, Morgan and Davis counties. coun-ties. Tooele county is this vear represented bv two Bevans. Senator-elect Archibald Bevan of the First district is an uncle of Representative-elect J. Alex Bevan of Tooele. Representative Bevan was elected to the legislature two years ago . anrl re-elected this year. Ho is a Socialist, So-cialist, but is conservative enough for the Tooele Democrats, and last year participated in the Democratic caucus. A Few Veterans. Mr. "Walton is the only new member ' of the upper house who has had pre-; pre-; vious experience, and in the lower house there are only a few who have had previous pre-vious experience. A notable veteran has been returned to the lower house in F. B. Hammond of Grand county, one of the most loved members of the legislature. legisla-ture. One of the leaders of the next legislature will be Representative-elect J. Frank Tolton of Beaver. Mr. Tolton was minority leader in the house in 1907 and in 1912 was Democratic candidate for governor of Utah. Other members 1 of the next house who have served in the legislature are Joseph E. Cardon of Cache, Joseph G. By water, Mrs. Elizabeth Eliz-abeth J. Hayward and Thomas P. Page I of Salt Lake', and Edward Southwick of Utah county. Incomplete returns from all of the counties in the state indicate that tho following will be the membership of the 1917 legislature: Senate. First district Archibald Bevan (D.). Second district J. W. Funk (D.). Third district Richard Strlngham (D ). Fourth district Joseph Chez (D.), W. J. Parker (D.). i Fifth district James W. Clyde (D.). J Sixth district Georpe H. Dern (DO. ' Frank Evans (R., C.
