Show SEALS 1 VICTORS I PITCHERS' DUEL Skeet Fanning Has Trifle Better of Argument With Clint Prough. Special to The Tribune. SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. IS. Oakland Played in true form today and lost to the Seals, who got two men around the circuit while treating the basement champions to a chain of doughnuts. It. was a pitchers' battle between Fanning Fan-ning of the Seals and Prough of the Oaks. The fornier had Just a shade the better of It. allowing five hits to six against Prough, Each pitcher kept the hits well scattered: only in the eighth was there any bunching, when each team managed to get a couple of bingles. Prough held the Seals to no runs for seven Innings and was going fine when the blow-off came in the eighth. Two hits in a row, a walk and a pair of steals were responsible for his downfall. Schaller sent in the first of the two tallies with a hit to center, and Bodie sent in the second with a two-sacker swat. There was a tight situation In the seventh, when Fanning, with only one man down, found himself facing a man on third And another on first. Ness made a noble effort for the squeeze play and might have pulled it off had It not been for the brilliant fielding of Beattv, who handled the grounder to perfection, and threw Hosp out at the plate.
