Spider Baum came near whitewashing tbc Mack men in today's contest for the fourth straight victory of the Seals. He had the locals two to nil in the ninth, when Carlisle doubled aud South-worth South-worth singled with two gone. Baum was rolling up a no-hit, no-run game, when suddenly things went wrong in the seventh. Only one man had reached base, Ward being hit in the third, but he was caught in a double play, making only eighteen uien to face Baum in six frames. With one down in the seventh Carlisle Car-lisle rolled the ball ' down to Beatty and beat it out when Baum couldn't get over to the .bag. Beatty made a bad toss to Baum and Carlisle dashed for second, but was thrown out. South-worth South-worth scratched a hit through the twirler's box a moment later, and after that Baum did not work for a no-hit game. Harry Krause was on the mound for Portland and he twirled great ball. Fisher 's error paved the way for the first run of the visitors when he allowed al-lowed Downs to score bv letting South-worth South-worth 's peg roll through his legs after Jones had singled. Downs had reached second on his two-bagger to center. Corhan singled to left and Jones, who reached second on the errors, cantered across the pan. After Krause and Lobor whiffed in the ninth, Carlisle doubled and South-worth South-worth singled, scoring Portland's lone tally. Baum covered Bates's liner with ease in rr-r ninth and the battle was over. If Bates's hit had gone through Baum, Portland would have tied the score. SAN FRANCISCO. AB. R. H. PO. A. E.
