The Oaks beat the Angels in their first clash of the aeries today, 5 to 1, by hitting Brant hard in the seventh frame. Maggert' s error in this inning also let in two men, but as they made no difference in the result no one made much of a yell about it. The Oaks took the lead in the second, when Gardner got his first hit, following follow-ing a walk to Ness, made second when Ness was thrown out trying to make third and scored on Kuhn's single. The Angels could do nothing with Pruiett until the ninth, when Harper walked, started for second and kept clear on home when no one covered the keystone key-stone bag to take Kuhn's throw. The Oaks won in the seventh. Gardner singled, Kuhn walked and Duddy singled. sin-gled. Pruiett popped to McMullen. Stow sent a hot drive to Maggert which was good for a double at least, but Maggert let it get by him and all four men scored. Outside of the nln,th the Angels had Just two men on second. OAKLAND. AB.
