Tho film story follows closely the famous novel of the same name by Sir Gilbert Parker, the novelist. The storv is a mixture of fiction and hist or v, the latter so familiar that every Ejody who has left school will know the names of the principal characters char-acters and something about them. There are Mesdames Du Barry and Pom-j Pom-j nadour. both favorites of King Louis I XV of France, one of the Capets whose 'excesses helped to precipitate the French revolution. Mesdnme.s Du Bar-rv Bar-rv and Pompadour are well remembered after a lapse of two centuries; we put 'em in novels, plays and films. And we name things after them. There is the play ' ' Du Barry," in which Mrs. Leslie Carter originated the title role. There "s a Du Barrv perfume and a Dd Barry rose; a Pompadour gown, headdress, and so on. And they are in the film of "The Seats of the Mighty," which comes to the American Amer-ican tomorrow. |
