The airmen of the be gerent countr es spent a busv Christmas Whi e a soli ary Ger man f ew over the Thames estuary and dropped a s ng e bomb wh ch fe 1 in a roadway and d d no damage a convoy of seven Brit sh navy seap anes v sited the German naval base at Cuxhaven and dropped bombs on ships and the gas works All but one of the British a r men returned safe y to the ships which con iofii1 them Simi ar activity was dispajed along the batt efront German airmen paying a surpr se visit to Nancy French avia tors to Metz Br tish to Brusse s and other Be gian towns occupied by the Ger mans and German a nnen to Polish c ties As usual the accounts of the airmen of the damage done d ffer from those of the occupants of the territory attacked While bombs were dropped during these f ghts most of the fl ghts were made for the purpose of reconnoiterlng The al I es who are on the offensive in the west are naturally des rous of knowing when and where the Germans are mov mg their reinforcements the arrival of which at the front has been the signal for n any German counter attacks Except in the Argonne and Alsace where the French have made some prog ress and outs de of artillery practice, the battles in the west for the last two days large y consisted of German at tacks to counter those of the all es and to prevent the allies from organizing the ground which they had gained |
