GERMANS SINK BRITISH WARSHIP. LONDON Aug 4 A British mine laying ship has been sunk by a German fleet. The torpedo-boat destroyer Pathfinder was pursued by the fleet but escaped. ALGIERS, Aug 4 Two German cruisers, reported to be the Goeben and the Breslau, have been captured by a French fleet, according ac-cording to an unofficial report here GERMAN CRUISER BOMBARDS BONA. The German cruiser Breslau bombarded the French naval station of Bona, Algeria, at 4 o clock this morning, afterward steaming off at full speed, in a westerly direction accord ing -to a dispatch received at the French embassy here The governor of Algeria, in a telegram received by the French government, says that the German cruiser Breslau fired eight broad sides some sixty shells into the French fortified town of Bona this morning One man was killed and some buildings were damaged. Great Britain deolared war on Germany tonight The momentous decision of the British government for which the whole world has been waiting came before the expiration of the time limit set by Great Britain m her ultimatum to Germany de manding a satisfactory reply on the subject of Belgian neutrality Germany s reply was the summary rejection of the request that Belgian neutrality should be respected The British embassador at Berlin thereupon received his pass ports and the British government notified Germany that a state of war existed between the two countries FOREIGN OFFICE MAKES STATEMENT.
