It was sanct oned by the American Auto-mob Auto-mob le assoc at on Only stock cars were used in th s run by an agreement s gned by all the entrants. The run was one of the most severe endurance and economy tests over stage 1 in this country and for the see ond t me in th s annual e ent a Buick won two first prizes and tied for the third In 1910 a Buick ear won in this same event the only one out of twen tj two entered to come in with a per feet score and tied for first plaee This w nning of economy and endu ranee contests is a habit of the Buick and up in W sconsin it s always Bn ck aga nst the field in the betting odds In the sweepstakes event for the class a Sentinel trophy the Bu ck scored a thousand po nts n the road score a thousand points in the gaso 1 ne economy score and 99o points in the techn cal exam nat on be og pen al zed five points for a loose screw n a floor board and a loose nut on the w ndshield Out of a possible Bcore of 3000 points Buick scored 299o points, ts nearest competitor losing by thir teen po nts In the fuel economy test for the Wiscons n motorist trophy tho Buick averaged 24 8 miles per gallon of gaso line for the entire distance Th s performance is all the more remark able when you consider the rules which governed the contest. The motor was required to be kept runn ng at all t mes four people were earned n the car together w th two extra tires on demountable rims in addit on to the regular equipment A mistake was made in running where by the Bu ck went four miles out of the way which was a total loss in the mileage reckoning In this final economy test weight of the car was cons dered n awarding the prize The Bn ck s o e 1 o er 200 points h gher than ts nearest competitors an a r cooled moter dr ven car wh ch weighed n ne pounds less |
