Show DOCTOR CLAIMS HE HAS BEEN. DEFAMED Letter Written to Collection Agency Used as Basis of Suit for Damages. Defamation of character to the extent ex-tent of $5000, the result of a letter alleged al-leged to have been written by James Murphy to a local collection agency, formed the basis of a suit filed in the district court yesterday bv Dr. E. H. Congor. It is alleged in the complaint that in his letter to the collection agency the defendant wrote in substance as follows: fol-lows: "I received your second letter, m which you say that ,the claim of Dr. Congor against, me is $35. Your first letter said, that the claim was about $15. At this rate I expect that the alleged fee will be raised to $50 by the time I get your third letter.- Ho" (the doctor) "owes me $145 for labor performed. Tf you will collect this amount 1 will split with you, $72.50 each." The alleged letter then charges that Dr. Congor is well known to the police of Salt Lake and that he, is being be-ing watched by them. The plaintiff alleges that be it well known in Salt Lake and that a3 a result re-sult of the letter he has been damaged in his reputation to the extent of $5000. ' |
