B. Hammond 66 years of age a former county commiss oner died at his home In Roy at 3 o clock this afternoon His death which resulted after several weeks Illness of heart disease was not unex pected and most of the immediate rela lives were at the bedside. Born in St. Joseph Mo , August "7 1849 Mr Hammond came to Utah with one of the companies of Mormon pioneers when be was onlv years of age, W 1th the exception of a few ears. be had been a contlndbus resident of this county It was during the jears 1S97 and 1898 that he ser ed V eber countv as commissioner As a stockman and authority on pure bred horses Mr Hammond was known throughout the state He gained this reputation through having brought to tills section more blooded horses thsn any other one stock raicer His knowl edge of horses was recognized and he waa often called upon to act as judge of horses as well as other livestock at fairs add stock show During recent years he was extensively engaged with his sons in contracting railroad construction work. In addition to the widow Mr Ham mond is sur1 ed hy the fo lowing nine sons and daughter Mrs. Po Iv toker Mrs Jane Baker Mrs Lettie M stoker Amaa M. Hammond Prank L. Ham mond Daniel Glen Hammond and Miss Ethel Hammond all residing at Roy Mrs PJioda Taylor tlarrisvllle and Mrs La vina Greenwell, West Weber Also surviving him are forty three grandchil drerr and three great grandchildren two brothers and four sisters. Tbe funeral will be held Sunday after noon with services In the Roy meeting house at 1 o clock The Interment will be made at the Roy cemetery |
