Show 17 A 1 ri I 1 E ii 7 peter we conver b I 1 ii HE DIED AT RICHFIELD brief biographical sketch he was aa early settler in provo city word was received in this city yesterday announcing annot mein g the death oi of peter W conover canover an old aal an estl esteemed emed citizen of provo his flis demise demi lse occurred at R richfield ich field sevier county count y on tues day mo rung sept 20 1892 Six months ago father conover left his home in in this city fermanti for manti for the purpose of doing work ia the tem tle but bat on his arrival there was waa too feeble to carry out his desires and was taken on to richfield where his daughter catherine resides resides and with whom he desired to visit vi it a short time and then return to manti after his hi s arrival at Ric Luald ald be grew worse in dealta and though the utmost earo and attention were given the venerable gentleman he gradually sank into his final rest his remains will be brought to provo today and the funeral services held tomorrow afternoon commencing at 2 i at the meeting house peter W conover was born bom at woodford ky on september he embraced the gospel at nauvoo about the year he was one of the pro ahei joseph smiths body guard and was a vigilant member of that body ile he came to this territory in 1848 remained main ad only a short time in in salt lake k and then came to provo where he has bas ever since resided he was one of the earliest ear liest settlers iett lers of utah valley his was the second wagon ever drove by a whiteman across provo river eiver and ho he raised the first wheat ever produced inthis this part of the territory colonel conover was one of the prominent military character charac tem of our ter tei rit orial hiFt hi hilory tory ory for years in the fir fifties he be commanded the militia in utah county anen the utmost vigilance bud bad to be observed in order to protect the settlers from indian aggreE aggressions in 1854 he accompanied the notable expedition tion of Colonel steptoe to carson valley nevada brother conover has perhaps figured as much in the perils and vicissitudes of work as any any man now living he was a man highly highfi venerated vene raed for his integrity and many excellent qualities he leaves a wife and a large family of child ch ildron rn and grand rand children to mourn his loss scarcely sear iy ay a resident re ident of this city but knew tho the deceased sid while he lived and none will fail to honor and revere his memory now that ho he has bus departed from our midst for the val valuable hi nas aits been greatly instrumental in accomplishing for the people of this territory |
