Show sept 22 tomorrow will be the last day of the encampment and the veterans are making the most of the few hours that remain before they part tor another year thousands of the old soldiers and especially the survivors of the army of the potomac have taken advantage of the battle field excursions and all the historic spots a hundred miles of washington are today thronged thron ged with veterans pointing out the positions of their regiments aad the places where the battle raged fiercest in imagination they are living the old days over again and the joy and exultation they feel as aliey look upon the scenes of their victories is the reward of their heroic service it is not a personal pars onal nor a sectional feeling but merely the consciousness of a good deed well done hundreds of veterans who wore the butternut and marched under the atara and bars may be seen among the boys in blue and on the ground where a few year ago they were ranged against each other in deadly strife they are now exchanging stories of the brave deeds of their cam raden with aa much gusto as if they had fought shoulder to shoulder instead of face to face after a day of reminiscences spent among the scenes of the war tha veterans will flock back to washington tonight to attend the reception which takes place in the pension office building special pains have beon taken to make this reception one of tuc most brilliant evania of the reunion the program ancs and invitations arp works of art taj will be prized as mementoes i alia the preat i hall of pension office hai been sumptuously dora leil and the surrounding ill in every dav harmonize the patriotic pro gramme which baa bien prepared after a hall concert by the marine band president harridon Harri aon will be introduced b douglas and will make the address of the evening the presidents speech will be responded to by GomBa ander in chief palmer who will in behalf of the grand army cheso will be the only speeches tle musical part of the pro gramme which will be supplied by the american choral society beins given mora than usual prominence the last number will be th eStar ner which will be recited by charles B hanford at the cloe of the brecita tion the national colors will be brought into the ball by a guard of honor while the marine band plays eally hound the Flae the whole audience will then join in sin ine the star spangled banner and the last great gathering of the reunion then be at an end |
