Show MINING ENGINEERS MEETATALTA CLUB Members of Utah Chapter of American Institute Have Annual Dinner. PLAN OTHER MEETINGS Optimism and Unified Effort Ef-fort Urged; Attendance Is Large. Members of the Utah chapter of the American Institute of Mining Engineers met at the Alta club last night to attend at-tend the first annual dinner since the organization of the local section. Karl Eiler?, a director of the American. Smelting Smelt-ing & Eelining company and a member mem-ber of the executive committee, was the guest of honor. There was a largo attendance. at-tendance. K. C. Oemmell was toast-master. toast-master. It was decided that at the October Oc-tober meeting two papers are to be read, one ou " Flotation, ' ' by d. M. Callow, and one on "Underground Mining, as Emploved at the Utah Copper. Cop-per. ? It was also decided to hold a meeting meet-ing in the Tintic district in July, at which B. 1 Tibby will give a paper on ' Economic Geology as Applied to Mining in Tintic," and Dr. D. A. Lyon of the University of Utah will read a paper on (,The Separation of Zinc." Among the speakers were Karl Eilers, Walter Fiu-h, C. W. Whitlev. Ernest Gayford. Dr. D. A. Lyon, B. F. Tibby, J. H. Win wood, Lafayette llanehett arid William Wraith. TeUs of Future. Mr. Fitch spoke of the future of the local chapter, and predicted a successful success-ful and growing membership. He called attention to the proposal to hold five meetings during the year, at which papers pa-pers would be read on subjects of interest in-terest to the miniug and metallurgical industry. He also outlined the necessity neces-sity fur optimism ami unified effort in dealing with the many problems confronting con-fronting the industry both economically and politically. Mr. Etlcrs said that he considered himself singularly fortunate inasmuch as his routing duties brought him to ?alt Lake in time to attend the meeting. meet-ing. He spnkr of the New York meetings, meet-ings, and said that the gathering nf the Utah section tonipared very favorably favor-ably in atten'lam'e. He alo predicted pre-dicted a successful future for the local section, and wished the members the greatest success in their endeavors. Engineers Invited. An invitation was extended to the Utah Society of Engineers to meet with the Utah chapter during the October meeting. Mr. Gemmcdl, after calling the attention of the members present to the next regular annual meeting of the American Institute of Mining Engineers, En-gineers, which is to be held in .an Francisco, Fran-cisco, beginning tin September l!0, spoke of the desirability of a large attendance. He also called the attention of the members mem-bers of the Utah chapter to the fart that though there were 13 members in Utah of the A. I. M.
