Show IMMEDIATE BEfJEFIT OUT CF THE QUESTION James E. CosgrifF Expresses His Opinion Regarding Wool Conference. Special to The Tribune. WASHINGTON', June 3. James E. Cosg-riff, representing western wool growers at the conference lieiuc held with agricultural department officials, while believing that ultimately results beneficial to woolgrowers will follow the conference, does not look for an immediate im-mediate benefit from it. He said today that the department represents that it is without funds to-conduct any demonstrations dem-onstrations to aid the growers in adopting adopt-ing better methods in preparing wool at the shearing pens for marketing than now exists and until congress appropriates appro-priates funds must confine its activities to giving advice to the growers. 'J1 he wool dealers and manufacturers attending attend-ing the conference couteud that sorting sort-ing and classifying wool at the shear-; ing pens will not materially increase the i price to the grower. "This attitude is! somewhat surprising to the wool growers grow-ers as for many years it is said that the dealers have been bearing wool prices on account of imperfect packing and lax shipping methods. Mr. (.'osgritf believes, however, that the interest in the matter aroused by the conference may lead to securing appropriations so that the department can materially aid growers in adopting improved methods of handling and shipping their product prod-uct and will also encourage the growers grow-ers to study and follow the methods ! which are iu use in Australia and other i big wool -producing couutriep. |
