About ono hundred unemployed men who left Portland Port-land Friday passod through hero today on route to Ealom to mako a demonstration demonstra-tion beforo the governor They .oont an advance agent a few hours ahead, who demanded of Mayor Llvosly that tho men bo fed and lodgod over Sunday. Mayor Llvesly refused and organised a posse of 200 citizens who met tho marchers march-ers on their arrival, escorted them straight through tho town and ordered thorn not to stop. Many of tho mon were surly and somo made threats, but all passed along. Prior to organizing tho local posse, Mayor Llvealy had called by telegram upon Governor West for aid, but was told the matter was one for local authorities au-thorities to handlo. Tho marchers applied to the mayor of Aurora before reaching hero, for permission per-mission to canvass that town for aid, but were refused. They will bo due at Salom Sunday. |
