Show DUCK CHEEK ill HOLDSIMI ORE Eighty Per Cent Lead Rock Being Prepared for the Local Market. . ELY GIBRALTAR FIND Long Campaign of Earnest Work Ends Splendidly for the Company.' Bringing the decidedly happy Information Informa-tion that tho Ely Gibraltar Mining company com-pany was soon to enter the shipping column, General Manager C. E. Street has roturned to his local headquarters with aomo magnificent samples of the lead ore now being prepared for the local lo-cal smelters, and with details of the present pres-ent mine conditions. The Ely Gibraltar company, which is a Salt Lake proposition, owns a large gToup of claims near McGIU, Nev., where the company has kept a small force of men at work continuously for more than three years driving a long tunnel from the base of the mountain to crosscut the several lodes of tho group. Surface Was Index. In tho beginning, discoveries of excellent ex-cellent lead ore had been found on the surface of the hill sldo, but only a very limited amount of sinking and stripping on the veins had been done and small amounts of the ore taken out, when it was decided to send in a long tunnel for general development. This tunnel has been driven for about 000 feot through solid ground and Is a very flnb straight bore. A well mineralized zone has been passed through by the tunnel near Its present face which Is believed to bo the first vein shown on tho surface, but as the values wero sparse and scattered the tunnel has been continued toward tho lodes further on. A drift was run on tho south course of the vein cut In the tunnel along the hanging wall for about fifty feet, with improvomeni In values, but scattered. It was believed both from surface and underground un-derground Indications that tho pay ore made in shoots raking southerly from the discovery, the vein being north and south In course, with an easterly dip. Owing to the continued expense which has been met chiefly by assessments, the company reserving a considerable block of the treasury stock rather than to sacrifice sacri-fice It during the recent money stringency, string-ency, it was finally decided by the directors di-rectors that C. E. Street, the manager, go to tho property nnd personally direct the work of exploiting and following the surface ores. For the past month Mr Street has been constantly on tho ground carrying on this work In tho face of exceptionally ex-ceptionally bad weather, but with splendid splen-did results. Two large parallel veins have been opened on pay oro from which very high-grade lead oro Is being daily sackod ready for shipment. The most work has been done at the original dls-covory. dls-covory. where exploration has proven the manager's theory that this was a right-hand right-hand ore shoot and that tho original shaft had passed vertically through it Eighty Per Cent Lead. An ore shoot filling a vein over ton feet wldo lins been opened, which continues con-tinues on vein strike as far as followed, with SO per cent lead ore. which is being be-ing sacked dally. Shipments will soon bogln and are expected to continue. The south drift In the tunnel. It Is now seen, will reach the same shoot If continued und give splendid depth. Work, however, will be confined for the present to oro extraction from the surface workings to replenish the company's bank account. This Is one of I he most important strikes ever made In tho Duck Creek mining min-ing district. "To see the solid, clean orj rolling out Is a cheering sight," Mr. Street says. "16 ono who hBs been a loner time on the assessment, end." The property Is only about one a hlf miles from the railroad shipping station, with a good down-hill road. For the present the orp Is sacknd because of a few hundred feet boat drag road from tho dump. A good road can bo graded nnd this expense stopped. Mr. Street feels suro that thjs property is going to make a great lead mine. Kevadas in San Francisco. James A.
