Now 19 it a fact that it is just as good form to ask a man as it i to wait to be asked? Is leap year to bp taken as nothing noth-ing but a joke, anyway, or is it to he a very real opportumtv for the girl who knows what she wants in the way of n husband, and seeing, goes after him ? The military post Is enlivened these days by the presence of an unusual number of attractive young women visitors, vis-itors, and despite the fact that the various companies have been ordered out on hikes at sundry and various times recently, the place has seemed more like an army post in its main characteristics on this account. From a rather quiet place socially, the post, has developed a rushing whirl of social so-cial events, dinners, teas and informal evening affairs, filling every hour. The newest arrivals among tho visitors are Miss Flizabeth Hardawav of Cincinnati, Cincin-nati, sister of Mrs. Philip G Wright-son, Wright-son, and Miss Nettie Snow of Welles-ley, Welles-ley, who aro guests at the Wrightson home. Miss Alice Breese of San Francisco Fran-cisco is with Taptain and Mrs. Frederick Freder-ick "4. Kellond; Miss PolU Young of New York i9 visiting '.'aptain and Mrs. C. 0. Smith, Miss Margaret Daniell of Los Angeles is a most attractive voung girl, who Is a guest of Colonel and Mrs. Irons; Miss Brown of Laramie, a sister of Mrs, Cobum. is the guest of Captain and Mrs. Cobum; Miss Alice Palmer, sister of Lieutenant Palmer, is the guest of Lieutenant and Mrs. Harry Jordan. Besides these, Miss Cart-wright, Cart-wright, sister of Mrs. W. B. Graham, has boon with Captain and Mrs. Graham Gra-ham since their arrival here. Even among younger girls the post is particularly par-ticularly happy in having a number, among them the attractive twin daughters daugh-ters of Colonel and Mrs. Bnrnham, who aro home from school for the summer, Miss (ienevc Hoffman and Miss Doiothy ILi rker. Afternoon tea has really become an .institution of itself in Ban Francisco, and the really smart ones could hardly SO through the entire afternoon without with-out dropping into one of the downtown down-town cafes nnd having something which shall be dignified by the term of tea." Xot thrtt oolong or uncolorcd Japan or English breakfast beverages are any more popular there than elsewhere. But there are so many things which ma bo classed ns "tea:' in the atternoon. and which by a judicious system of synecdoche, or hyperbole, or metaphor, or something, are mndo to answer the purpose. Take it at the popular "tap room" which was originally designed as a tapestry room, but which owing to the absence of the tapestries and the presence of shall we say tea? has become well known the length and breadth of at least the western conn try, as the "tnp room." Everyone goes into the tap room for tea and yet who ever dreamed of having a real teapot brought into the "tap room?" But the fact remains that tea, or its equivalent, is really a sorial institution in 'Frisco. A letter from Tien Tsin brings the news that the Jones family Colonel and Mrs. frank B. Jones and their two charming daughters, who were at Fort Douglas for the few months prior to the depart ure of the Fifteenth, are! delightfully established there, and together to-gether with manv of the army folk popular here for the past few vonrs, arc enjoying life in C hina. Among Those with them are Major and Mrs. James M. Arrasmith. Lieutenant and Mrs. Emory B. Adams Lieutenant nnd Mrs Charles Sampson. Captain and Mrs Conrad. Lieutenant and Mrs. F. M Miller, Lieutenant and Mrs Hugh Walthall, Captain Garrison BfcCaakey and others of the popular Fifteenth. Miss Editha Jane McConanghv. from Rochelle, Til., a cousin of Miss Gladys McConanghv. whom the latter visited last fall and early winter, is to be added to the alreadv numerous attractive attrac-tive young visitors to the city. Miss McConaughy will reach here today, and already a great many social affairs have been planued in her honor. i. A most interesting picture is that of tho wedding of Miss Mattie May Lowe and Lieutenant Walter Moore shown on this page, an account of which event was published last week. Aside from the central figures, the bride and bridegroom it is interesting t.o Salt, Lako friends as a likeness of Lieutenants Lieuten-ants E. B. Garey and Ned M. Green and also of Miss Garey, who was a visitor here. If good luck goes with the old shoes thrown after newlywcds there must have been considerable in the large-sized footgear Mr, Garev is ovi dently proparing to hurl ater the bridal pair. The band concerts of the post have proved popular m the past few days, since thev have changed to the evening hour. Many parties of friends have gone up for the early evening either bv motor or on the cara to upend an hour visiting with friends and enjoying the delights of the music. The 'concerts are civen on Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday evenings at 8 o'clock and are open-air affairs which are attended by the c'neral public. A special concert is given Sunday morning.
