Show FAVORS RElCIl II APPROPRIATION Commercial Club Laws Committee Com-mittee Acts on Measure for Panama Exposition Fund. The Commercial club committee on laws and legislation met yeHterday and considered the exposition bill, as It relates re-lates to the expositions at Sun DIcro and San Prnru'lsco. The committee decided de-cided to recommend that thc commission, which will represent Utah, be Increased from five to nine and that two executive committees bo named, bnc for San Diego and one for San I"rancl3CO. K was also the sense of the committee that no aal-arles aal-arles be paid to the commissioners, but that thfv should bo allowed neoeiJ.sary traveling expenses. It, was further de-elded de-elded to iecumin?nd the elimination of the political feature of the appointments by the Governor and leave him free to act as he pleases. The committee- favored w reduction in tho appropriation; for thc expositions, making tho amount 51CD.O00 for each. Instead of .'200,000, as provided in tho bill. These recommendations were all approved later by the board of governors. F. C. "Richmond told tho board that ho desired to make a report as chairman of the apeclal telephone committee. Ho said a rumor had been circulated to the cfTcct that tho Mountain States Telephone Tele-phone & Telegraph company intended to make a decided raise In Its rates as soon as the present legislature adjourned ad-journed and that as a result of these rumors somo member of the legislature was threatening to introduce a bill to prevent the company from raising rates. Mr. Richmond said lie had wired President Presi-dent B. B. Field of the telephone company com-pany at Donver and hnd received a long letter from Mr. Field saying that no such Intention existed on tlws part of thc company; com-pany; that It might bo necessary to make somo slight adjustment of rates in thc near future, but tlmt the general tendency would be downward rather than upward.
