Show to WANTED A dr shores designs his stinging resolution solution Ee gleo sutherland a one of the expiring kicks of al party was made last saturday night and though the organization is dying hard it may safely be said that the end is not far it was half past eight when chairman shores called the meeting to order and there were inside the railing at the federal court room a dozen and half liberals two newspapermen and henry dog while on the out aido of the enclosure were probably aa many spectators chairman shores after reading the call for the meeting eaid that owing to a lack of enthusiasm he would resign his position as precinct chairman and place in nomination R S hines this latter gentleman said that though he a liberal would never confess a lack of enthusiasm he would still not bo a chairman he wound up by nominating elmer B jones elmer B promptly took the floor and in a long strain of fine rhetoric told the audience what the liberal party had done but with the glorious record of tho past to back him mr jones respectfully declined the chairmanship A thought nominations out of order judge jones had the call ol 01 the read which stated it was 1 for the purpose of discussing ahe political situation 2 to elect officers then said the judge we must first discuss th situation J E hilla waited to know when dr shores wanted hia ignation ro accepted As his question was not promptly answered he again arose and nervously asked mr chairman I 1 have asked you a question and I 1 demand an answer when do you want the resignation accepted chairman shores warmly 1 I have tendered my resignation you can accept it when you fed disposed or not accept if you like then followed some talk about a man did not ought to bo made to act if he did not want to and the resignation was finally accepted dr shores made bold to remain in the chair and asked what was their further pleasure but he was soon told that he was no longer chairman who was now to act till another chairman could be elected some one eaid the secretary should but judge jones arose nominated J E hills for chairman and proceeded to put the motion while the latter gentleman took the floor jand vainly cried mr chairman mr chairman when there was no chairman judge jones then declared that now J E hilla was the chairman jur hills you have elected me against my protest and be d d if ill act silence then reigned tor a few moments and elmer B coues name was next railroaded through for temporary chairman and that gentleman explained that he was not a liberal that he had joined the party nor had he voted the ticket 1 I have always been a republican with some sympathy for the liberal party he said but 1 will sit if you desire II 11 E rawlings Kaw lings well sit down and mr jones sat down in the chair judae jones moved that the resolutions adopted by the county convention against disbanding banding cis be adopted dr shores moved as an amendment the following WHERE is the liberal party organized and maintained for an express purpose to wit to oppose the church party in this Territory known as the peoples party and caid peoples party have divided and allied themselves with the national republicans and democratic parties and have shown a disposition to abandon the local parties which have so long retarded the progress and prosperity of this fair territory and WHEREAS the salt lake tribune our political organ has advised that when the mormon church through those who have authority to in the mormon church announce to their people in an way their belief that the mission of the peoples party is finished when tell people to accept their place in either of the irrean political parties that they may choose that henceforth they will never be subjected to criticism critic iem for their acts or their votes that they are as absolutely free as any americana in the country then the liberal party wil leay very well whether this be true or not we are williep to accept it to be brur and to adjust things on that line now therefore resolved here the copy was a second time taken from the reporter without cause that if the new political organizations show a disposition of fairness in making up their ticket for the comine election regardless of previous party affiliation letting competency be the principal qualification that we the members of the liberal party give them our hearte support G W SHORES ex chairman of precinct committe this was a stunner and rather aroused the liberal ire J E hills moved to table it and hines seconded it because he thought such resolutions were an insult to the party dr shores thought this the easiest way to get at the discussion of the political situation and he thought discussion ought to be allowed A motion to table would cut off all debate judge jones thought not to allow discussion would ba too much like a priesthood meeting the motion tc table was killed and dr shores made a few remarks regarding resolution the judge jon es followed on priestly rule saying that cormons mormons were dividing ae instructed by the presidency of the church A G sutherland wanted to stop harping about the mormon church and lie the time would come that we would simple talk on political lines in conclusion he said he had always been and still was liberal geo sutherland had said that when the People 8 party di solved he waa in bayor of disbanding tho liberal party 1 I made thid assertion a few weeks ago and as far as I 1 am personally concerned I 1 feel that I 1 ought to be true to my word I 1 realize that this ia a question on which men can rightly differ still all that our party has claimed from the first is that the peoples party disband our orators and our papers have all said that when the peoples party disbanded th eLiberal willingly meet them half way now when the young men of the other side come and lay down their arms at our fort shall wa stand on the walla with our guns cocked and say we will not accept your surrender I 1 for one be hieye they are acting in faith I 1 do not believe that what judge jones say a is true viz that they are dictated to by the first presidency of the mormon church in this case it seems utterly absurd that the presidency should be able to personally negotiate with men scattered from one end of the territory to the other then judge jones believes the swindle will be carried even further than this he believes that cormons mormons will RO to washington and tell republicans that cormons mormons will be ans and democrats that U ey will be democrats after being admitted to the union does the judge think that in the whole congress of the united states there is not one honest man I 1 know this kind of talk please you I 1 can see it by the expressions on your face hut I 1 am a republican and 1 I 1 thought it better to tell you here as roy friends than to go off to some republican meeting and announce myself as such gentlemen from henceforth I 1 am a republican this was the saddest yet but enough courage was mustered to reject dr shores resolution and adopt the ones introduced by judge jones then they took up the question of chairmanship once again A G sutherland declined Newel knight declined J V jones and one or two others declined this nearly broke judge jones heart and he thought they had better disband but it is right at the threshold of victory the liberals next fall will surely w in with A G sutherland 1 I adise to a point of order we are not discussing what the liberal party can do or has done we want a chairman I 1 move that II 11 E rawling be chairman this gentleman was elected his protest and all went home a sad lot of disgruntled politicians republican MEETINGS MONDAY JUKE 22 pay son john M zane james 0 E loose and J C graham TUESDAY
