Rabbi Charles J. Frcund of Congregation Congre-gation B'nal Israel In Salt Lake City, returned yesterday from a visit to Har-rlaburg, Har-rlaburg, Pa., where he has had a call to fill- the pulpit of Oheh Shelom temple, which he will accept if the congregation here will release him. A special meeting meet-ing of the board of Congregation B'nal Israel will bo held Sunday to consider Rabbi Freund's designation, and if It Is accepted he will leave for Harrlsburg about July 15. Rabb! Frcund came to Salt Lake City in his present capacity December 1, 1904, and has been In chargo of tho Salt Lake City congregation ever since, this being be-ing the longest that any rabbi hits been located here. lie lias mado a multltudo of friends who will regret his departure. As a prominent Mason, a worker for peace, a booster for Utah and for everything every-thing that tends to build tip, Rabbi Frcund holds an envlablo place In the hearts of all, regardless of religious belief be-lief Wheji he first came to this congregation, congre-gation, Rabbi Freund found a debt of ?7500 on the temple, which, largely through his efforts, was entiroly removed re-moved within two years. He has built up his congregation and at the same time has worked untiringly to tear down tho barrier between Jewish and non-Jewish non-Jewish people. He Is first vice president presi-dent of the Utah Peace society, a member mem-ber of tho national -child labor committee, commit-tee, a representative from tho state of Utah to the hundredth anniversary celebration cele-bration of peace among English-speaking persons. Rabbi Frcund was for two years chaplain of Mt. Morlah lodge No. - F. & A M., and Is a trustee of B. F. Peixollo lodge or I. O. B. 13. While here he has spoken in many of tho churches In addition to bis own congregation and In fifteen or the ward meeting houses here and In Ogden. In speaking of his probable change yesterday, Rabbi Fround said: I was asked to speak In tho pulpit of Ohcb Shelom last Friday and did so. Inasmuch as It ineRns an advancement for mo, I feci certain of being released from the contract. There are many reasons why I am loath to leave Salt Lake City. 1 have manv friends here both among and outside of my congregation. The Jewish Agricultural and Colonial Co-lonial association of Gunnison, Utah, has been the object of much of my Interest since It was established and I am anxious to see It succeed. I am also interested in agriculture and believe that I can do fioinc good boosting for Utah and the west. My wife and two children have many attachments here and I regret to take them away, but there Is a larger field there and we feel that wo should go.
