Show Death Calls Musician Well Known in Zion MBS. J. Q. JONES. MRS. JOHN G. JOES dies iraiG She Made Many Friends in This City at the Eisteddfod Eistedd-fod in 1S95. Word of the death of Mrs. John 'Gordon 'Gor-don .Tones, who will bo remembered as Nellie Charles, an accomplished pianist, was received in Salt 1-ake yesterday. Her death occurred in Pittsburg. Pa. Mi'H. Jones first came Into prominence In this city through her connection with the Denver Choral society, which appeared In this city in connection with the National Na-tional JSIstcddfod In October, 1SD5. Dr. Henry llousley of Denver led the choir and tho then Miss Charles played the accompaniment for the chorii3, as well as for many of the contesting vocallsta. Later Miss Charles became the wife of J. Gordon Jones, who. It will bo re-cnllcd, re-cnllcd, divided honors with Charles Kent of this city in the baritone content; "Cambrian War Song," by Brlnloy Richards. Rich-ards. Mr. Jones made a profound impression im-pression upon the adjudicators and auditors, audi-tors, so much so that In 189S he waa engaged by the Cambrian association of Salt Lake City as tho official soloist At this latter event Miss Charles, later Mrs. Jones, played his accompaniment, and she. with her husband, nharod the encomiums given her by both public and press. Mrs. Jones was a native of Iowa. Her father was formerly a Welsh Baptist minister of Denver. |
