Show I 1 i Young Woman Who Is Given Gold Medal MISS DORA SCHICK. MISS DORA SCHICK HISJJOUST Receives Stephens Medal as Best Girl Orator m High School. One of the most successful Stephens' Medal contests ever seen here was held at high school yesterday afternoon. There were fourteen contestants and it was luird for the judges to determine the winners. A large audience was present and every student received merited applause. ap-plause. The programme was opened with a selection by the lilsh school Glee club. The high school orchestra made its last appearance of the year The orchestra or-chestra played several selections while I the Judges Were deciding the winners. Two prizes we re a warded, one each to the girl and boy giving the bo3t oration. Dora Schick won the sliTs medal and Ashby Marriott won the boy's medal. Dora Schick took "Child Labor" .13 her subject. Ashby Marriott took as his subject, "The Boy." Will Ray, in giving the decision of the judges, complimented the students on the way they handled their subjects. He said that this contest con-test was without a 'doubt the best of its class ever held here. The other Judges were .Tames Wolf and Mrs. Porter. The medals wcro presented by Mr. Stephens. |
