Show SIT LAKER SENDS OUTJKOF ZINC Cerro Gordo Property Again Produces at Behest of Utah Operator. Lewis D. Gordon, the Salt Lake mining min-ing man now operating tho famous old Cerro Gordo mlno of California under a lease, arrived In tho city on Saturday from Los Angeles. He states that he now has about 500 tons of zinc ore on the road to tho Kansas zinc smelters, the oro running close to 38 per cent zinc Years ago the Cerro Gordo mine was producing silver and lead ores, and in the neighborhood of $20,000,000 worth was marketed. On a recent examination examina-tion of the mlno Gordon discovered that the r.inc ores which the later dovolopment work had brought to view would serve as ideal food for the market with zinc, at its present satisfactory price level, and tho leasing of the property by him followed. The ore now en route to the smelters camo from the 400-foot level, and the same ore has been developed on the 200, 700 and 900 levels as well. The ore la a carbonate and silicate, and tho search for tho ore should ho accomplished at the minimum of expense, aa It follows closely tlie old stopes driven by the original orig-inal operators. There aro twenty-five miles of underground workings in this mine. ' There Is a tramway from the mine to the railroad tracks some five miles distant, dis-tant, and within tho coming six months Gordon expects to be shipping from 40 to 50 tons daily.
