Show Sagebrush State in Leadi SEVEN PRIZE WINNERS. Thomas Short of Nevada Is Proud of Mis Young Shorthorns. N"Evv EVIDENCE that the eround of prize cattle raising is moving from the middle west to the interraonntain country is showu in the first prize award made at the recent Chicago-International Livestock show for the eeven best 3-ycar-old short-horn steers in the northwest district, bred and raised by Thomas Short, a well-known breeder of Arthur. Elko county, Nov. The steers, were sold to J. G. Tm-boden Tm-boden of Decatur. 111., who cutercd them at tho bis show, winniug easily over all contestants. The croup appears ap-pears in the cut above and was exhibited ex-hibited against a load of "white faces" weighing over 1S00 pounds each. The prize winners weighed 1712 pounds each. Mr. Short is one of the best-known breeders iu tho intermountnin west and has been in the business since 187-1. Tt isknown lhat ho owns large herds of stock, rated as the best in the land, but tho long distance of his grazing lands and ranch from the railroads has precluded his entering birr exhibits. TTc has in his feed lot nt present one entire herd of 2-year-old steers, each of which will weigh 11.0 pounds. As a cattle raisiuc section, F.lko count- has been coming rapidly to the front, and at present can hold her own with auy of the noted breeding lo-calities. |
