Show News of St Mary's Although the Christmas vacation was unsually short and many ot the pupils had rather long and difficult journeys to make to and irom home, yet U o'clock Monday morning the hour appointed for the reopening of classes, found almost every one at her place in the study hall, and subsequent reports from the various departments show that a general spirit of earnestness prevails among the student body. If beginnings are prophetic it may therefore be conildently expected that abundant results will be the reward re-ward or the restful spirit with which the tasks of school life nave been taken up at the New 1'ear opening. Examinations being near at hand may partially account ac-count for this gratifying condition, and the fact that two of theso trying ordeals have already been passed and with general gen-eral credit by the classes in psychology and astronomy suffices to prove that little lit-tle opportunity was afforded tho young ladles lo muse over the delightful experiences ex-periences of the holidays According to the schedule of class work, those aspiring aspir-ing to tho leaching profession will apply ap-ply the time previously given to psychology psychol-ogy to a course in pedagogy and the history his-tory of education. A certain share of practice in teaching will also be af-torded af-torded them for the purpose of applying the principles and methods gathered from their study of the theory. Tho members of Ihe general singing class at the Wednesday morning meeting entered upon a discussion of the advisability advis-ability of more definite class organization. organiza-tion. Jt was decided to have a prosident and vice president, by whose assistance certain points of order could be more effectually ef-fectually carried out. The Misses Adelaide Ade-laide Sun and Margaret MeDonough. respectively, re-spectively, were chosen to fill these positions po-sitions of honor and responsibility. Among the pleasures that marked the holidays for the sisters and the pupils that remained at tho academy must be mentioned visits from some of the students stu-dents of former years. From Sacred Heart academy. Ogden. came iwo of at Mary's graduates. Sisters Dorothea and Berenice, who spent the greater part of the vacation with their alma mater. Miss Maude Taylor of last year's class, who is now engaged In teaching the young Idea "how to shoot" in the town of Bear River, found lime for a few brief calls and a great .many Interesting stories of real life in the school room. The Misses Lola and Violet Guthrie, also teachers, being employed In tho Webster school of School Lake, were welcome callers, with their sister, Ivy. who 1$ now attending the academy. The Misses Klhel Blxby and Grace Sullivan, who are still pursuing certain extra studies at Ihe academy, arc so regular in their appearance ap-pearance as hardly to be looked upon as "old girls." much less as visitors, but It is nevertheless good to see them lingering about the haunts of other days and feel tho inspiration of the past mingling ming-ling through them with the aplralion9 of the present. s A number of the sisters availed themselves them-selves of tho courteous invitation of Superintendent Su-perintendent Chrlstensen and attended ihc day sessions of the teachers' convention, conven-tion, Tho lectures and discussions were very much enjoyed, and through the kindly forethought by which copious notes were taken, especially of Dr. Sux-zallo's Sux-zallo's and Dr. Balllet's addresses, the students In the teachers' course hope to get the, substanco of the instruction given by those two eminent educationalists. educational-ists. The demonstrations by the; classes In plusical culture were likewise particularly par-ticularly interesting: and enjoyable.
