Show FABULOUSLY RICH MINES SELDOM GO BEGGING Promotion, properly carried on. Is a necessary nnd legitimate part of mining. It Is unfortunate, but true, that mine promotion offers an unusually attractive field for the swindler. A promoter must be optimistic or he could not convince aiiyone of the value of a proporty as an Investment. Optimism Is not dishonesty, however. If a prospective Investor would exercise a iittlo common sense and tse ordinary good business judgment in making an Investment in a mining company com-pany the number of victims taken in by dishonest promoters would be surprisingly surprising-ly reduced. It Is never safe to be off guard for a moment. AH extravagant stories should be taken with the proverbial "gruln of salt." IIIgh.lv colored word pictures should be sufficient to make one suspicious'. suspi-cious'. Although fabulously rich mines are possibilities, they arc so rare that they are not commonly before the public in search of financial support. We not long ago hcurd a promotor telling of a rich district (unknown to but one or two men), where the rocks were yellow with frco gold, ' and he had the samples with him to "prove It.' This region Is not at all what he represented It lo be; had it boon, he could have taken out gold enough in a day with a pick to have llnanccd a good-sized company without the necessity of calling for outside aid. No man of sound business sense would be misled by such yams. A plausible story may ho far from the truth, so in any event the only safe course is lo make a thorough Investigation Investiga-tion before Investing. As most Investors are non-technical men, they should call Into consultation come reputable mining engineer, who, by examining the property, proper-ty, will be able to report Its probable (rue worth, and to advise on the course to be pursued In Its development to a paving mine. In addition to having a good property it is equally Important to have on the board of directors men who are not only competent lo deal with Hnancial matters, but who have also a knowledge of mining. An incompptcnt directorate can wreck a. company in a short time by ill-tlircctcd effort. Mining World. |
