In spite of the almost universal cry of hard times by the railroads, the -New York Central has raised its dividend rate from w per cent to f! per cent yearly, and Wednesday declared its first 14 per cent quarterly dividend, thus joining the ranks of a number of roads that have raised their dividend rate whilo protesting protest-ing against lower freight and passenger" rates and against Increasing the wages of their mcrr on the ground that they could not afford to meet these conditions and slay out of a receiver's hands. J. T. Harahan announces that he will, remain president of tho Illinois Central. W- L. Parks has resigned as general superintendent su-perintendent of the Union Pacific and has become vice president of the Illinois Central Cen-tral to lighten the labors of Mr. Harahan. Hara-han. Charles Ware, for five years superintendent su-perintendent of tho Nebraska division of the Union Pacific, takes Mr. Park's place as general superintendent. The Great Northern expects to have I he line ilear to Wellington, tho sceno of the fatal slide, by Thursday.
