Heck from her home at S21 Sixth East street, with a sinister purpose hi view, Anthony Woods, a cement ce-ment contractor, -! yeai-s old, was arrested ar-rested by Patrolman Anthony Olson, Patrol Driver George Moore and Motorcycle Motor-cycle Oftlcer W. W. Griflhf, Wednesday afternoon at V2:'.U) o'clock, and saved from a possible lynching at the hands of infuriated citizens on P street, between Third and Fourth avenues. According to tho reports received by tho police. Woods went to the home of the child Wednesday, about noon, and. after giving her a bag of candy, enticed her to accompany hint to the eastern part of the city before tho child was missed by the anxious mother. Mrs. .1. Klngdon, an aunt of the child, saw tho two passing her house at Seventh linst and Fourth Soulh streets, on their way eastward, and ran after the man. Child's Aunt to the Rescue. Mrs. Klngdon Immediately attacked Woods, who started to ran. The chase of Woods was taken up by W. 11. Mowson, who lives on Fourth South and Third East streets, and a number num-ber of others from tho Immediate neighborhood, neigh-borhood, started after him. The alarm had been sent" lo the police station along the way of the chase, and when Woods ncared P street, between Third and Fourth avenues, the police, patrol and Patrolman Olson arrived In time to save Woods from being taken from Motorcycle Ofllcer Griffin, who had overtaken him. by the maddened cowd. Threats of lynching were heard on all sides, but the man was removed to the city jail without further difficulty. Denies Charges. Woods, at the station, denied the charges and said that he had llrst become be-come acquainted with the child when he had been doing cement work in the vicinity vicin-ity of her home.
