the opera house was raised on a stage billed with ittle fairies A cau tanta arranged by professor giles 4 as the opening feature of the afternoon exercises by the school children it aas very neatly presented pres anted and thor enjoyed by all present the luet by the misses jones was especially fine prof J A rees briefly addressed the assemblage he was amazed at alie grand sight for twenty two years he had bean a teacher in utah county but he had neverseen so ragny children assembled under one before major hendershot after making a neat little speech highly complimentary to the people of utah favored the audience with several selections on hia drum the flag song sung by the little ladies from rendered very neatly the whistling solo was warmly ap av i features of the entertainment were all well received and applauded to the echo school the school work of the pupils had been beatly arranged iu th e rooms of the central schoolhouse it consisted of maps drawings needle et cand presented aveia creditable appearance atelier band map of europe and america deserves especial mention K was the work of the pupils of the central schools of provo every nation appeared with its cities mountains lakes and rivers the flags of the nations which dotted the nd there in the holds of the ships were the commodities modi ties for the production of which each especial nation might be noted A relief map of utah county done in waxwork wax work and from the payson schools is also a unique piece ol 01 work ABSTRACTS FROM the following abstracts from memory were written by pupils in one of the classes conducted at the opera house thursday afternoon A FRIEND IN MEED A goat and horse belonging to the same mactor were grazing in a field which was open to the road the two animals beina constantly together soon became fast friends the goat not having as much strength as the horse was subject to the treatment of rude boys who idrew rocks at him and beat him with sticks the poor quadruped qua draped was thus treated time after time until the horse could stand it no longer BO one day it determined to learn the boys a lesson crossing over to where the boys were he took one of great friends sometimes boys would tease the goat by throwing at it The horse would always gryto befriend the oat so one day when these cruel boys were teasing the goat the horse concluded to stop
