Show fairview flakes editor FA it is some time since your many readers have heard from the thriving little village of fairview thinking a few lines might not be out of place I 1 take thia opportunity of letting you know that we are still in the land of the living the health of the people is good mud and bad weather have been prevalent for some time some of our boys trapping in the mountains report the enow as hard and solid and about eight feet deep consequently we can look for an abundance of water this season the changing chang inc of the county line between sanpete arid emery counties is creating considerable excitement the proposed change hakea from us six townships of the most valuable grazing land in the territory and yet the only paper established in the county recommends the change As the editor of the sentinel says he hopes the change will be made for alie benefit of those who live in the northern part of sanpete county we would inform alie kindhearted editor that ho need make no such wish on our account we are not the class of men who want to sacrifice a country which feeds from to head of sheep and about 1000 head of cattle to say nothing of the horses eight saw mills three shingle mills and the coal mines that exist in this portion of the county our county gets all of the taxes on the mills and one half of the taxes on the sheep and cattle we are at a loss to know why our county paper should recommend such a fatal measure we can in no way it unless the editor thinks by taking scofield and winter quarters from sanpete and giving them to emery county it would weaken the northern end of the counte in the contest for alie county seat it is no doubt well understood that manti is at present our county scat and yet over oliree fourths cf the population of the county lies north of manti the people of manti are making great struggles to retain the county seat one of their reasons for retaining the county scat they aay is because they have a fine graveyard we have no fault to find with manti for trying to retain the county seat but at alie ayame time the people in the part of alio county feel that they leave been imposed upon manti nearly al ul the county officers nearly two thirds oi the registered voters jivu north ol 01 ephraim but we have only one cui I 1 think it ia almut time that ve assert our rights fd demand a red agni tion in county mattera A FAIRVIEW march 10 1890 |
