| Show AN ORDINANCE to provide for the numbering of the houses of pro vo city SEC 1 be it ordained by the city council of provo city that the houses of provo city shall be numbered as herein after provided SEC 2 it shall be the duty of the city marshal to furnish each owner of any house situated upon any street lane or alley within the limits of provo city a written copy of the correct numbers to which said house is entitled and each owner shall within thirty dayo after such notice cause a non corrosive metal or enamel duplicate plicate do of such number to be placed in a conspicuous position upon such house in a permanent and durable manner SEC 3 tha city marshal in numbering houses upon the streets of the city shall adhere in all respects to the following system of numeration allowing one number to each rod and twenty four numbers to each side of the blocks the initial shall be the junction of seventh and J streets and the numbering shall extend east west north and south tho even numbers always on tho right and the odd numbers on the left looking avay from the initial point SEC 4 to number J street and all other streets parallel therewith and lying south of seventh street commence afe the southeast comer of the junction of said streets severally with seventh street and number one with number two opposite and number southward to the termination of said streets to number J street and all other streets parallel therewith and lying north of seventh street commence at the northwest comer 0 ana junction of said streets with seventh street and number one with number two opposite and number northward to the northern termination of said streets to number seventh and all streets running parallel therewith and lying east of J street commence at the northeast corner of the junction of said streets respectively with J street and number one with number two opposite and number eastward to the eastern termination of said streets to number seventh street and all streets running parallel therewith and lying west of i street commence at the southwest comer of the junction of said streets respectively with J street and number one with number two opposite and number westward to the western termination of said streets provided that all numbers of houses on streets running south from seventh street ahall have added thereto the letter S signifying south that all numbers of houses on streets running north from seventh street shall have added the letter N signifying north that all numbers of houses on streets running east from J street shall have added the letter E signifying east and that all numbers of houses on streets running west from J street shall have added the letter W signifying west SEC 5 any person removing destroying or defacing any figure or letter herein provided for without authority from the owner thereof is guilty of an offense SEC 6 any failure to comply with the provisions of this ordinance shall subject the party offending to a fine not exceeding five dollars for each offense passed december ath A D 1889 wilsom H mayor of prove city attest J J city recorder Ee corder OF UTAH UTAH COUNTY SS provo city I 1 JJ fuller recorder in and for provo city utah county territory of utah 5 hereby certify that the foregoing is a full true and correct copy of an ordinance to provide for the numbering of tho houses of provo city passed by the city council of provo city december ath AD in testimony whereof I 1 have SEAL hereunto affixed the corporate seal of provo city this day of december A tt 1889 J J city |
