Show FAIRBANKS ATTENDS COURT IN THE ORIENT TOKLO, May 27. Former Vice. President Charles Warren .Fairbanks of tho United Stales, who is touring the Orient, attended court today at the trial of several members of the diet on charges arising out of the so-called sugar scandal. In opening court tho presiding judge expressed regret that the distinguished American lawyer and statesman should witness the disgrace qf Japan's parliament, but declared that the process of purification in which tho government was engaged eventually would result, in the betterment better-ment of Japan's commercial standing. Mr. Fairbanks will bo received in audience 1)3' tho emperor on May 31. He -will be presented by Thomas J. O'Brien, the American' embassador, and afterward, will bo entertained at luncheon by the emperor. Among tho guests will be the imperial princes and many high officials of the empire. On the 'samo day, Marquis Katsura, the premier of Japan, will give a dinner in honor of Mr. Fairbanks. |
