eider joseph sawyer the choir sang 0 lord oril we now thy spirit most divine the sacrament was administered by the bishopric of the first ward elder william H ing addressed the congregation god has required that we should meet together on the sabbath day and lay aside the cares of life and worship him we are told that in the beginning was god and all things were made for him the mission of the Latter day saints is greatly misunderstood by the world at large by many we are no t even classed among religionists I 1 sup nose that no people that ever libed had their motives impugned a have the lat berday saints The world does not believe that our doctrine is founded on the teachings of the they forget that our fathers have been and time agaid they forget that our fathers are the children of common parents and have been reared in christian homes to dav they lift up their hands and voices against us they brand us from alie pulpit and so it is that we have become a peculiar people we understand that the gospel of jesus christ is founded on the words of alie we believe in jeans christ we believe in the foundation as he laid it down we believe that christ came and dwelt in the flesh and that he is the savior of the orld A minister of one of the christian denominations one day told me that lie did not believe that the latter dav saints believed in the mission of jesus christ we seemed to pin conr faith on joseph smith and brigham young on our apostles seventies elders etc I 1 do not believe this remark has any foundation without faith inthe Savi orthe corner stone of our religion would be taken away and our structure would fall we do not seek to minimum alie works of the savior he came as alie savior of the world we are told that the plan of salvation was marked out even before the world began satan or the son of the morning presented one plan which was to save all but which would have deprived man of his free agency and would have given him all honor and glory we are told that another plan was proposed by the sav bior which would ibave man his free agency he could accept the plan of life and salvation or reject it as he pleased and the honor and glory of the work to be done by him should belong to god alie latter proposition was accepted and so my br ethern and sisters the savior became a sacrifice for our sakes even before adam came you no doubt have heard a great many ministers deplore alie fall of adam and eve we do not hear of any issue being born to adam and eve before they were cast out of the garden of eden if adam and eve had lived in the garden of eden for six thousand years we would never have had a chance to come upon this earth it was just and right that adam and eve should fall I 1 cannot conceive of a perfect cammann mant of god that compels us to obey god I 1 cannot conceive a perfect law of liberty that compels us to do right the plan of life permits us to sin if we wish we have our choice between good and I 1 evil 1 do not believe that evil began with adam and eve I 1 believe that evil has existed as long as good has es isted I 1 believe it will continue throughout time the great work of reproduction and salvation will continue throughout all time and eternity to the glory there are hundreds of other planets that contain people who are struggling just as we are and there are thousands of worlds to be populated in alie future there is a chance for repentance pen tance beyond this world and many of the christian ministers are beginning to accept this doctrine since it was advocated by henry ward beecher in the brooklyn pulpit why should god proclaim the gospel to only a few and allow alie many to go without having had a chance to accept i it tho gospel is for all humanity and all will have a chance to accept or reject it christ ia today to day watching over work and the hearts of the people to receive the gospel when it ia preached to them by the elders so I 1 say that we do recognize christ aice these sacred emblems testify that we do remember him we make aliis covenant of remembrance every sabbath day if we are living in the line 0 four duty we will witness ultimately the triumph of and christ will eventually feinn in triumph on earth because we believe this we are branded by our enemies as traitors aliey pray for the kingdom of god to come ou earth but they are hypocrite hypo crita
