daily tasks THE SCHOOL although many of our readers are acquainted the view of the central school building perhaps few have been inside of this temple ot learning where hundreds of little ones worship at the shrine of education on entering at the ring of the bell in the morning we find teachers and pupils in alie large north room of the building prof giles is seated at the organ conducting the musical part of alie opening exercises the room ia not seated suf to accommodate all of the pupils so the little ones are ranged about alie walls standing during the exercises after prayer and singing the monitors of the several departments report the absent ones then follows a brief drill in which all of the pupils participate both large and small swing bend clap and whirl to tle music of the organ then ane teachers and pupils for a few moments have a nice little talk about habit the general exercises beins over prof giles plays a lively march and the chart reader and the second reader grades march to their respective apartments up to this time everything has been bright and cheerful but now we are somewhat surprised to hear a slow mournful tune issuing from the direction of the organ we are not left long to wonder it is alie tardy march the door swings open and in march the tardy looking sheepish as they are eyed by their fellow students evidently it is their intention not to be late again A spelling class is called and taken charge of by prof the professor lias a number of interesting ways of presenting spelling lessons this morning he adopts alie method of det de t the bell rings and thy pup ia all come marching in to the the bryau and take their places beaida seats and cale exer ciss are gone through with then suddenly without the slightest warning the smaller pupils who are in the north room strike up a lively song about sitting up strait washing abates etc buiting the actions to the words of the sony THE WEST SCHOOL after a few minutes walk we find our at tha west school mr J B walton welcomes us into the large room up stairs in that cordial pleasant way of his there are three grades in this room viz the third fourth and fifth readers the fourth reader reading class is reciting one day in each week we are told is incidental day on this day the school reader is laid aside and some entertaining sketch or story is read by first one and then another if the story is long a portion of it is read and the conclusion briefly narrated one young lady reads a portion of the blacksmiths citory very nicely and then in a very apt way relates the conclusion alie second reader reading class under alie charge of miss celestia fisli lias finished reciting and the students are beins arranged in the class according to merit the first reader reading class under charge of miss may nuttall we find reading in concert in a way that would be creditable credi tible to lii another room Mie sEmma thatcher of the cliart class the little ones ae all standing engaged iu writing they are perfectly willing to allow strangers to look at their dvork and well they might be for it is well done for such small fiands acain we ascend tha stairs and faud prof giles decorations adorn the walls of all of the school rooms electric bells sound the half hours in the central andrest and West schools the little ones generally eo through some light exercises after school system of this county in particular and oi the territory in general within the walls of aliis honored institution many of our leading teachers received their normal training the primary
