IS. ll'OU. of (he main bank at San Francisco and the hranch bank at Los Angeles." The foregoing- was placarded on the front doors of the local Japanese-American bank this morning, after C. A. GlnHlcr, state bank examiner, had been authorised by Gov. Spry and Secretary of State TIngey to take charge of the affairs of tho Institution at the reducst of the California authorities. Haifa Hxamlnor Glazier arrived here this morning under the abovo directions and is now engage! in preparing a statement of tho condition of the Institution. In-stitution. Tho closing of tho doors of the bank caused much excitement among lb .Japanese .Ja-panese people of the city. The bank wa soon surrounded by a gosticulatlng niub of "Japs," who could not understand the situation and believed that the institution institu-tion had closed on account of Its Insolvency. In-solvency. When the notice was posted civlnp the reasons for the closing of the doors, tho "Japs" appeared to be boiler satislled. but a number refused to leave tho vicinity of the bank for several hours, paring the excitement. Deputy Sheriff John llutchens had to be called to disperse the crowd whleh was growing each minute with "Japs" de-leimlncd de-leimlncd to draw their deposits from the bank. The condition of the local concern Is said to be solvent, as shown by the daily statement Issued at the close of business yesterday. S. Ichimura, tho manager of the bank, was on Ills way to California yesterday, when he was informed by wire of the probable action of the authorities In closing- tbe bank. lie abandoned his trip and Is now on his way back to Ogdcn. |
