Show FOUR UE KILLED MD SCORE INJURED Town of Clayton, N. M., Wrecked by Tornado; Damage to Property Prop-erty Is Heavy. CLAYTON. N. M., Oct. 19. Four persons woro killed in and near Clayton last night as the result, of a tornado and cloudburst. Twenty other persons were inoro or loss injured, three of whom, it is believed, will dio. Tho new Union county courthouse, which cost ?40,000, was wrecked and a 6coro of houses wrecked or torn from their foundations. Telephone- and telegraph wires woro blown away aud miles ot poles leveled. Telegraph communication with Denver was not ro-establishod until 11:31 a. m. Tho damage in tho business Bcction of tho town was uot heavy. Tho Colorado & Southern railroad sustained' a heavy loss. Clayton was in utter darknoss after the tornado until daylight, and thoro will bo no lights tonight. Tho water system was also pnt out of commission by tho storm and tho town is without water. |
