Show UTAH COUNTY DEMOCRACY themert The Meet to adopt their resolutions but dont succeed the democratic club of met on saturday afternoon last in the for the purpose of receiving the report of the com on resolutions and platform the clerk read the minutes of the previous meeting which were amended and approved sir thurman moved that a convention be held at provo on july 21 consisting of delegates from each precinct in utah county for the purpose of adopting a platform of principles and for the further purpose of considering the advisability of placing candidates in the field for alie coming election and if deemed advisable to nominate the aade and to that end the chairman and secretory secre tiry of this meeting shall make the apportionment of delegates among the precincts and issue the call for primary meetings to be held in time for said convention ven tion mr thurman said the adoption of a platform was a matter of considerable importance and should be done by as full a representation from the precincts as possible he called attention to the fact that at this meeting there were not half of the precincts represented dr pike referred to the approaching approach inc august elections time was short aad if we proposed putting up candidates tor election there was no time to lose in view of this he was opposed to the motion judge dusenberry said there was much preparation to make for the even bugs ratification and there would not be much time to spend at this meeting for consideration of the platform mr robarts wanted it stated in the motion of air thurman that the convection shall proceed to nominate candidates for the august election mr thurman could not accept the amendment before he favored putting candidates in the field he wanted to see the democratic party properly organized and that organization could not be efi act yd until a platform was adopted the chair thought we should not procrastinate crasti nate there was no better time than right now to adopt or reject the proposed platform air mcewan called attention to the fact that a central committee had been appointed and that there was already an organization it had already been decided to adopt the national platform as the basis of our political faith was there any necessity therefore for delay he was ready to vote a democratic ticket on the basis of the national platform mr A 0 smoot jr did not think that an organization had been completed hie executives committee had not even effected an organization at the county seat who ever heard of a central committee adopting a platform of principles forthe party it would be an act of unwarrantable usurpation for the committee or this meeting to adopt a platform without the voice of the people being heard dr pike had the impression that this meeting had been called for the purpose for adopting tho platform and the precincts had been invited to bend delegates to consider the proposition the chair read the motion calling for the meeting and laid great stress on the point that the object stated was to consider the adoption of the platform of principles prepared by the committee and to further perfect the organization of the utah conov democratic club mr wanted the platform considered now and to get ready to put a democratic ticket in the field the chair again stated the object of the meeting and said that other business would be out of order mr thurman was under the impression eliat his motion to defer the object till a week hence was in order the chair acquiesced after some further discussion mr thurmand Thur mana motion was put and lost some business connected with the ratification meeting at night was disposed of and the meeting adjourned |
