Show JESSE KNIGHT TALKS ABOUT HIS SMELTER Special to Tho Tribune. PROVO. March 0 In their last circular cir-cular letter, sent broadcast. Pollock & Co. of Salt Lake stato that Mr. Knight has been anxious to sell the smelter at all times, and that II has not been successful suc-cessful under tho present management. In a talk with a Tribune representative. Mr. Knight said: "We think that the present management manage-ment Is tho best In the world, and our superintendent and metallurgist can not be beaten anywhere." Referring to the statement that he was anxious to sell, Mr. Knight said: "I would not sell at all If I thought tho smelter was to bo closed down to tho detriment of the Tintic mining Interests, and I have never given an option unless It had a string to It; that. Is. tha,t the smelter should continue to be run and that I be given a good contract for my Tin tic ores for a period of ten years. "I can't see," continued Mr. Knight, "that running a bank slvcs any special qualifications for crltlclng a smelter or any other business. A banker does not have to he a business man. He only has to bo able to hold his breath long enough to chnrge his customers a good, heavy interest. Anybody can do that If ho has the money and tho customers. "Wo are satisfied with the smelter and consider that it has done well for a starter, and If It Is sold Jt will be on the terms I havo stated." Mr. Knight would not stato what the proepocts wero for the deal going through nor to whom the option is given. |
