Some admitted that they had 1 nothing to do in the lty and were anx- ions to leave. Contrary to tho usual cus- If torn, they were sentenced to spend the k next thirty days on the rock pile. A few h whose cases appeared to be aggravated f forms of laziness wore sentenced to serve sixty days. Those who admitted that they i had drunk too much were discharged if ( it appeared that they were worklngmcn. j but when it was evident that they' were habitual drunkards they were sentenced ') to thirty days In jail. Judge Bowman i stating that he hoped they would sober up in that time. f William J?odergue. charged with dls- t turbing tho pence, was found guilty and II sentence suspended indefinitely in iiis i case. Mrs. Elizabeth Chamberlin. living f at 320 J street, was the complaining wit- l ness in the case. According lo her lesti- j inony. Rodergue Iiad gone to her homo 1 and after being invited into the parlor J had used frightful language. Mvra Stain, J residing at G53 Sixth avenue, said that , she had heard the" language. When asked how much of it she ban heard she said ,; that she had not listened long, only about r ten minutes. Rodergue told a different story, and Judge Cowman told all Inter- ; ested parties to go home and be good. |
