session wednesday night with mayor dusenberry in the chair A petition from the utah sign stencil company asking for the privilege of numbering provo city after the philadelphia system was read and re berred to the committee on streets and alleys the petitioners petition ers represented that they had just completed ogden cita and had given great satisfaction A communication from L representing that his city lots had been deprived of their legal and proper share ot water this season owing to the cutting down of the street on which his property is located and the destruction of liis water ditches in consequence and asking for his proper portion was read and re ferrad to the with authority to construct the needed water courses to the petitioners petition ers property and give him his proper supply ot water A communication was read from the street inspector stating eliat the ordinance establishing fire limits did not pay whether the construction of board fences the prescribed limits should be prohibited he wanted information as to whether lie should prevent the erection or such fences certain parties were contemplating building fences of inflammable material and wanted to proceed at once with the work the matter was referred to the committee on judiciary A proposition from the utah nursery co to furnish one year old hardwood ornamental trees at per 1000 or two year old trees at 1200 per 1000 was referred to the committee on the garden city park the mayor in behalf of mr thomas beekley Bee eley stated that when the city was platted a portion of mr beesleys Bee farm in the east part of town was found to be within one of the streets and he deeded it over to the city mr beesley had recently sold his land and in having it surveyed had found that the deed given to the city described another of land different to that intended and he now willied the city to give him a deed to that portion of land and in return he would deed the strip necessary the matter was referred to the committee on streets and alleys with authority to take immediate steps in the premises the report of the recorder for licenses collected during the month of july 1889 amounting to was read and accepted the report of the city marshal for the j month of july showing fourteen arrests and fines assessed during that time amounting to 80 was read and accepted councilor from the special committee appointed by the council to take steps for the erection of a city hall and the construction of a vault in connection with county courthouse stated salt lake city had been engaged to draft plans for the purpose but that since his engagement doubts had been expressed by several as to the advisability of building a city hall on to the courthouse some thinking it would be better to have the building entirely separate from the courthouse he thought it would be proper to submit the question to a mass meeting of the taxpayers and see what the people of the matter mr then moved that a meeting of taxpayers be called and the matter submitted to them judge jones who was present here stated that the motion by mr was in accordance with a suggestion he had made looking to economy as he thought that the city should not go to the expense of leaving plans drawn for the erection of a city hall until it was decided as to whether the people wanted such a building mr Pax mans motion was then put and carried when the time for holding the mass meeting was discussed mr suggested that in addition to the mayors proclamation in the papers dodgers be printed and circulated urging a full attendance judge lately however they had increased to while now it reached the claim of the city marshal for board of prisoners during july amounting to 15 was allowed the claims of the street supervisor for services ps for july amounting to was referred to the committee on streets and alleys mr farrer remarked that there seemed to be something out of joint in the claim and the bill similar to that of the city marshal was albo rapidly increasing he had learned that the treasury was in a low condition and he was not in favor of the city getting into the same condition as it had to years ago he would like to
