| Show THE SILENT PARTNER the stroy ofa B folks masterpiece at the theatre tomorrow to morrow J B polk the finished comedian renowned all over alio united states nd europe for his fine acting plays in the theatre tomorrow to morrow evening in the great play of the silent partner this play telL the story of a young new york attorney sidney backus portrayed by mr polk who has an ordice in the great equitable building on broadway having neither clients nor influence and failing to find any older attorney of experience peri ence willing to go into partnership with liim he resolves to have a partner nevertheless so he invents one and names him aliis bemo occupies presumably a private office and is too busy and important to be seen by coan mon eyes when anyone insists apon interviewing nemo sidney states that his partner is in some distant city sett ing up an estate to make kemu appear real sidney buys clot lies and various articles in his mine and in n large office building like the equitable alie fact that nemo haa never been scon is not commented upon sidney is in love with mabel van coit the daug liter of a rich speculator peter van coit who objects to the engagement barclay kidneys Sid best friend is also in love mabel but has already two wives one of whom follows him and demands a thousand dollars driben to desperation he steals alie money from van coit whose office adjoins that of sidney then passes into kidneys Sid office and inadvertently counts the money near a phonograph just arrived the phonograph records liia work van jolt accuses alie mythical nemo of haying stolen the money he begins a search for nemo but of coarse no trace can bo found of him belond the fact eliat bis clothes etc are in kidneys Sid possession by a chain of circumstantial evidence that would be perfectly convincing li a court of law sidney is finally accused of haying murdered nemo a man who never existed unable to clear himself by producing bis partner lie hits upon the desperate expedient of appearing before van coit disguised as the mythical nemo he does is immediately arrested on the charge of stealing the money A host of minor complications that have been piling up through alie entire three acts culminate at alie baine time bui by a lucky accident the phonograph exposes befi barclay as the chief his two wives appear to claim him and the concerning nemo happily clean d up among alie other prominent charac afis arewillie coombs a typewriter type writer in kidneys Sid office alio e at lection of her employer causes considerable trouble mrs sacketts Sac ketts wonderful balm and her daug liter angelica alie latter a character peculiarly original and tony tracy a persistent bill collector the introduction of alie edison garph in bogli serious and comic ersnes an especial feature A vein ii terest and honest sentiment runs through alie play which is not a farce but a legitimate legit mate american comedy with natural characters drawn to the life the scenes are laid in the law office of nemo bachus at a summer retreat up alie hudson and in mr van i boits coits library |
