| Show UTAH COUNTY FLOWING WELLS the salt lake said to be tapping utah lake some time since mayor armstrony Arms tronc of salt lake city for the corporation of ahat place purchased in the northern end of utah county a strip of land two miles in length running along the jordan river on which it was intended to try the experiment of sinking a large number of flowing bellg with a view to obtaining an additional water supply for s antlake city for two aweeka past the cf salt lake city lias been engaged iu boring these wells and between twenty five and thirty have been sunk the flow of water from these varies from to oae hundred and fifty gallons per coming through a 2 inch pipe it is anticipated thac at least double the quantity of water will be obtained which will give to salt lake a larger supply from the south than it has heretofore hereto foru had and go far toward solving the problem tha produced by the flowing wells is equal or even superior to the water for culinary purposes used bv the people of bialt lake city though it is probable aliat it will not be nee dedin this direction for a lung time to come but will be used for irrigation the stream already obtained now flows into jordan biver and the remainder will also be turned in it will be measured at the point where it goes into the river and again where it is taken out through the city canal to be conveyed northward for use there it is the plan however to flume past the point of the mountain so that none of the water will be lost by any means the work of sinking wells will be completed within thirty days and there is every prospect that a continuous lyof the precious liquid from that source will be insured to the city the movement is an excellent one on the part of the existing municipal au and will receive the warm commendation and support of all good citizens it was urged by some persons that alie water is being drawn from utah lake but this can hardly be admitted from the fact that tho water in some of the wells bomes seyen feet above the surface of the lake showing that the supply is from mountain streams the test of the quality of water also goes to idea NW |
