Show IN THE SECOND WARD. j I A strong spirit of Americanism per-A'aded per-A'aded the meeting of American party delegates from the-Second municipal ward at the party headquarters, Monday Mon-day evening, for the purpose of selecting select-ing candidates for city councilmcn for the long and short terms, and for electing elect-ing committeemen to carry on matters connected with tho coming municipal campaign for the American party. Aside from anumber of enthusiastic moments, everything at the meeting was transacted Avith expedition and dispatch. dis-patch. E. G. Edward Burlingame Avas nominated nom-inated as chairman of the ward commit com-mit tee. The meeting Avas called to order bv Edward Burlingame as chairman, with 12G delegates present. Every one of the fifteen districts were represented. Mr. Burlingame stated briefly the purpose pur-pose of the meeting and commented upon up-on the need of a strong effort on the pari, of every citizen who represented American party principles, in order to securo the election of candidates of the party this fall. He instanced a number num-ber of recent occurrences which made apparent the necessity for another victory, vic-tory, and urged the nomination of candidates can-didates who would be able tn lead the party to victory this fall. W. J. .McLaughlin .Mc-Laughlin was selected secretary for the meeting and J P. Kimball, 'assistant secretary. Following the organization of the meeting, William Nelson Avas made permanent per-manent chairman. Mr. Nelson stilted that the meeting had been culled not only to nominate candidates for a number num-ber of city officials, but to set the ball rolling for tho American party campaign. Delegates from every district dis-trict had .been arranged together and business was then carried forward as rapidly as possible. Jn the nomination for long-term city councilman, the contest, lay between Ed G. O'Donnell and Georgo II. Ray-i bould. The vote was: O'DonnplI. SI: Raybould, J5. Captain C. U. Roed had boon nominated for the long-term, but withdreAv. Candidates for the short-term short-term Avere: C. II, Reed, E, C. Allen and Geovgo H. Raybould. Reed received 7IJ votes; Raybould, 29, and Allen, 2-1. Earl Ripley, S. D. Leo, George S. Smith, S. B. Armstrong and R. E. Curry, were placed in nomination for position of city coinmilteomen. On the first, ballot bal-lot only one nominee, George S. Smith, received a sufficient, number of votes to elect. On' the second ballot. Karl Ripley was elected over the other three candidates S. B. Armstrong, J, E. Curry and Air. Pratt: M. I. Alorris avjis elected member of the committee on permanent organiza tion and order of business, without opposition, op-position, and Frank Christenson )ad no opposition for position of committeeman on credentials. Three candidates were suggested for member of the committee on platform and resolutions. Air. Skid-more; Skid-more; William Nelson and R. E. Curry. -Mr. Skidmore withdrew before the matter mat-ter Avas put to ballot, and Mr. Nelson Avas elected by a vote of 101 to 25. Kd Burlingame, C. I,'. Patterson, Frank P. Kimball and J. D.
