Union labor's i equation In the Democratic national cam- palgn and the plans that have been form- 1 ulated by officers of the American Feder- atlon of Labor to swing the labor vote to William J. Bryan were subject matters I of a series of conferences tonight between j National Chairman Norman E. Mack nnd Samuel Gompcrs, president of the American Amer-ican Federation of Labor, Secretary Morrison Mor-rison of the Federation, and President McConnell of the Machinists' union. Chairman Mack announced before his departure for Now York at midnight that , he had approved the plans devised by Mr. i Gompers and his associates to aid In Mr. Bryan's election, and that within a few j days he would announce the chairmen of : the various labor bureaus which will be established in soveral of tho larger cities and conducted under the general direction direc-tion of the national committee and the American Federation of Labor. During the evening, Mr. Mack talked over the long distance telephone with Na- j tlonal Committeeman McGraw, at Graf- I ton. W. Va.. and Congressman Talbot of Maryland. The situation In Maryland and ' West Virginia, Mr. Mack said, was highly satisfactory.
