Show THE BOND BIDS. ' The bids for the $(500,000 of city bonds authorized by tho voto of tho tax-pa'ers tax-pa'ers of this city on J11I3' 29th, woro opened by lio Council on Mondnj- night. The bidders were numerous, and souio of tho figures offered were as fair as could bo expected, tho premium being on a good percentage basis as reckoned. The Council will tako timo to figure out precisely the financial outcomo of each bid, and will of courso mako the award to the bidder whose figures on tho whole afford tlic best results to tho city. And the Council will be able to do this, affording in this respect a markod contrast to the County Commissioners, Commis-sioners, who on a liko occasion were not able to mako calculation of what was best for the counl3', and hit. upon an award which will eventually cost the taxpaers some $27,000 more thau the acceptance of the lowest bid would have , involved. It is gratitving lo seo that the cit3''s , credit stands as high as these bids show it to do. It is gratitying to know that the condition of tho money nnd financial markets of tho countr' have so far recovered re-covered as to mako such bids possible And it is doublj- gratif3'ing to nolo that American financiering is such a splendid success. |
